We meet one Wednesday afternoon a month to discuss three chapters of Charlotte Mason's volumes (currently volume 3 School Education) and to work on a handicraft together (moms learning the handicraft so they can then teach the children at home). During the reading group meet up, the kids play in the backyard/playground while the moms chat. As we get more older kids, we hope to add a Shakespeare reading group (or even putting on a play) for the kids.

Charlotte Mason in the Shenandoah Valley

We are located in the Staunton area of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We meet once a month to discuss the current Volume in which we are reading. We have a list of about 15 ladies, and on any regular basis there are eight of us there. It is a wonderful group for fellowship, deepening our understanding of God and how He uses the CM method in our homes, and a place to build community. We have been the springboard for a group in North Harrisonburg area as well.

We split into two groups at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year, so in addition to ours, there is a group that meets in the northern Harrisonburg area.

The Arbor Guild has been meeting since the Spring of 2013 as a multi-age (grades 1-12) living education community. We gather bi-monthly at a local community center, directly adjacent to a 35-acre prairie reserve (where we meet on alternating weeks for our Natural History Club). Parents share teaching responsibilities in a variety of subject areas, including Shakespeare, composer, picture study, poetry, literature, folksong, hymn, and handwork. We divide our meeting days into upper and lower forms for many of our subjects to allow for increased student sharing and also more challenging material as the students get older.

Charlotte Mason Evening Group

Welcome, Mamas! We invite you to come and chat about all things Charlotte, ask questions, share resources, and discuss her volumes.

We meet every second Friday from 7:30-9:30 PM. Moms only, nursing babes welcome.

We read Mason's work with intention every month and gather to listen to how each is grappling with Mason's ideas. Taking turns hosting allows us to connect in comfort and confidentiality.

A greatness of thinking - or magnanimity, according to Mason - seasons our conversation. Essentially, when at odds, we "agree to disagree agreeably." We all homeschool differently and have different backgrounds, but we're committed to coming together to create meaningful, encouraging dialogue that seeks to understand Mason's ideas and one another.

As Mason wrote, education is truly an atmosphere, a discipline and a life. That children are whole persons. That the Holy Spirit is the Divine Teacher & we parents are co-collaborators in their education. That we mothers are being taught by the same means. As we seek to authentically interpret her work, we read with this lens in mind.

Welcome! We can't wait to learn alongside you ♥

The Olives

... your children will be like olive shoots around your table. " (Psalm 128:3)

We are a community of Charlotte Mason homeschooling mamas and children named "The Olives".
I started this group some years ago (with just one other family) when we moved to Johannesburg, South Africa. My prayer was to find community, to build friendships, to support each other and to learn together..

God has been faithful and we are now a community of nine families! Our group is blessed by so many different strengths and talents and each mama and child bring something precious to it.

We meet every second Friday for a couple of hours to sing folksongs, read poetry and to do nature study together.

Mums also meet for a monthly book study and we have family gatherings at the end of the year.
