Charlotte Mason Institute Online Study Groups

The Charlotte Mason Institute hosts several different online study groups each semester (seasons run from January-June and July-December) for community, growth, and encouragement. Groups typically meet once a month via zoom for an hour and a half, and extra articles and resources and a forum to chat with others in the group are provided with registration.

Trellis Charlotte Mason Community

Trellis is a North-Central NJ Charlotte Mason community that exists to support parents and develop relationships between homeschooling families interested in learning and growing in the life-giving, relational principles and methods laid out by Charlotte Mason.

Trellis was prayerfully established in order to provide the fellowship, encouragement, and support needed for homeschooling parents to provide their children with an education in their home environment based on the gospel-centered, Charlotte Mason philosophy and method. Being so prayerfully established, the Trellis community continues to thrive by God's guidance through prayer and His truth as revealed in the Holy Bible. We seek to support current and prospective homeschooling families by providing opportunities for parents and their children to build relationships and grow in their delight of learning together.

We are made up of families from Essex, Bergen, Morris, Union, and Middlesex counties of NJ, and currently are accepting mothers into our in-person book study group. This Fall (starting Sept 2023) we are starting the first part of Volume 4: Ourselves. We welcome people of all faith, educational, and cultural backgrounds, while at the same time putting forth the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, as revealed in the scriptures, which is the truth upon which Charlotte Mason based her philosophy and method.

We do not offer a co-op at this time.

Charlotte Mason Evening Group

Welcome, Mamas! We invite you to come and chat about all things Charlotte, ask questions, share resources, and discuss her volumes.

We meet every second Friday from 7:30-9:30 PM. Moms only, nursing babes welcome.

We read Mason's work with intention every month and gather to listen to how each is grappling with Mason's ideas. Taking turns hosting allows us to connect in comfort and confidentiality.

A greatness of thinking - or magnanimity, according to Mason - seasons our conversation. Essentially, when at odds, we "agree to disagree agreeably." We all homeschool differently and have different backgrounds, but we're committed to coming together to create meaningful, encouraging dialogue that seeks to understand Mason's ideas and one another.

As Mason wrote, education is truly an atmosphere, a discipline and a life. That children are whole persons. That the Holy Spirit is the Divine Teacher & we parents are co-collaborators in their education. That we mothers are being taught by the same means. As we seek to authentically interpret her work, we read with this lens in mind.

Welcome! We can't wait to learn alongside you ♥

Truth, Beauty, Goodness Community

The Truth, Beauty, Goodness Community (TBG) is our long-standing (over 14 years!), beauty-filled offering of a homeschool community built on one particular philosophy of education – that of Charlotte Mason. At different times, we have had all ages in our co-op, only elementary age students, and only high school students. We love to share and encourage others who wish to start learning cooperatives where many hands (teachers) make light work and allow moms to implement the fullness of a Charlotte Mason education.

Visit our webpage for more information and resources that we love to share! Presently, we have a Form 3-6 group (TBG Teens) and a Forms 1-3 group (Spreading the Feast).

Spread the Feast: Memphis Charlotte Mason Community

“We spread an abundant and delicate feast in the programmes and each small guest assimilates what he can” (Charlotte Mason, Vol. 6, p. 183).

(PLEASE NOTE: We currently have a waiting list to visit and join our community. Please reach out to learn more about this process and be put on the waiting list.)

Spread the Feast Community is a community for home educators and families in Shelby County and the surrounding areas interested in learning about the Charlotte Mason method and philosophy of education. Our primary goal is to be a place of encouragement for parents on their homeschooling journey, and to grow in community with one another.

We also provide learning opportunities for the children such as clubs, meet-ups, and field trips, so they too can grow in community and friendship with one another. Spread the Feast is open to all that are interested in learning more about the Charlotte Mason method and philosophy of education. We welcome CM veterans, those transitioning to CM, those that are just beginning to learn about CM, those that are simply curious about CM, and everyone in between.

We host an evening book discussion once a month for parents (and "babes in arms” welcome) where we read and discuss the Charlotte Mason volumes or books about her philosophy. We also have mother culture and family events, clubs (scouting, nature), nature outings, "early years" meet-ups, and more!

Life-giving Motherhood

"Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life." ~ Charlotte Mason
With acknowledgment of this, Life-giving Motherhood was born: a worldwide, online community of sisters in Christ, growing in the philosophy and method of Charlotte Mason in our homes and local churches. Each month is packed with live workshops, habit-formation challenges, mother culture, and a book club reading Miss Mason's volumes.

"We are a community of Gospel-reliant moms, intent on being disciples and disciplers of Christ, who have united to answer the call of raising up the next generation in accordance with God's Word, by cultivating the spiritual disciplines lived out by Christ, and by replacing unproductive habits with life-giving, productivity-boosting habits, which enable us to hone our ability to be watchful, praying gatekeepers of our homes, and ultimately, hear our King say when He returns, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
