Charlotte Mason NorCal

CM NorCal was formerly called CM West. Given the growth of the CM Community on the West Coast, we decided it was time for a new name and a smaller regional focus. Our commitment to encouraging growth and fostering community continues and we look forward to meeting you at an event in the near future.

We host single-day events for educators to meet new people and explore the riches of a Mason education. We offer encouragement for local groups and connect with others to help form or grow your group and learn from other communities. We plan to offer educational retreats and overnight retreats to help educators delve more deeply into Mason’s principles and practices.

Please join our mailing list so you will be notified about our next event!

Charlotte Mason Monterey Bay

Charlotte Mason Monterey Bay is a community of home-educating families dedicated to implementing Charlotte Mason’s philosophy in their homes. All levels of understanding are encouraged and welcome!

In alignment with Charlotte Mason’s Philosophy, this group upholds a biblical worldview, affirming that the Word of God is true and serves as the foundation of our beliefs.

Our purpose is to foster a community of families rooted in CM’s educational philosophy, that nurture a culture of living ideas for our children. Our location serves families in the Monterey Bay and Central Coast areas, including Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties.

We encourage involvement in two ways *ENGAGED* or *ROOTED*:

🌻ENGAGED: Joining in and finding a rhythm with others.
*Study Group (Parents Only)
Our study group is the heart of our community. Each month, we come together to thoughtfully study Charlotte Mason’s volumes, and this shared learning is what anchors everything we do. Because of that, consistent participation and commitment to the study group is a prerequisite for involvement in the broader offerings of our community.

*Nature Outings - Nature study, nature walks and outdoor exploration.

✨Our Rhythm ✨
Study Group - Once a month on the second Monday @ 7PM
Nature Outings - Fridays 10:30AM - Bi weekly

🌻ROOTED: Invested, connected, and growing together.
A community grounded in Mason’s philosophy requires intentionality. When families commit to being present, friendships deepen and children form meaningful bonds. This consistency also allows trust & collaboration to flourish among parents.

*Our rooted community is for families who are actively pursuing a Charlotte Mason education, or who are ready to take the next step toward intentionally living out this philosophy within their homes. The offerings below are designed for families who are committed to consistent participation, allowing children to grow alongside others who are actively practicing the Charlotte Mason method. We are seeking the deep richness of connection that a Mason education naturally fosters within both children and families.

Offerings
* Nature group
* Field trips
* Book clubs
* Scouting
* Enrichments
* Mother Culture
* Family gatherings

✨Community Standards for both levels of engagement ✨
We understand that finding a group that truly fits your family’s needs can be challenging—there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why we offer the flexibility to connect in two ways: Engaged or Rooted.

Community cannot grow without intentional connection. So before making a decision…

We ask that you:
* Prayerfully consider if this is where the Lord is leading your family in this season.
* Commit to CMMB as one of your primary homeschool groups
* Study Group participation
* Participate in at least 2 offerings to build community (rooted community)
* As a CMMB member, you’ll have access to our Band app, where we post regular updates about offerings and events for the year.

We look forward to connecting with you!

Introduction to Charlotte Mason – a Summer Series

If you find yourself here, you've heard the name Charlotte Mason. Maybe you know she encouraged time outside, or used books to teach many subjects, but you’re not sure her ideas could help you or your children.

Whether you’re homeschooling or not, Charlotte Mason’s wisdom centers on who children are and what they need, which transcends beyond education, impacting our parenting and the culture of your home.

If you’re curious to learn how Miss Mason’s philosophy can inspire wonder, build connection, and foster good habits, I hope you’ll consider joining me for a summer discussion group!

We’ll meet 3 to 6 times between June-August. It’s free, we’ll meet at a public location in Richardson, you can come once or every time, and there will be no pre-reading required.

Inspiration & Delight — a conference in Seymour, TN, July 19th 2025.

Saturday, July 19, 2025 in Seymour, TN

We are excited to announce the first year of Inspiration and Delight, a conference for Charlotte Mason educators, featuring Donna-Jean Breckenridge as our keynote speaker on the topics of atmosphere, discipline, and life. Charlotte Mason said we are limited to using these three tools in the education of our children. Understanding these fundamental ideas is essential to following her philosophy and method, but it can be difficult to fully grasp these concepts. Breakout sessions with Lani Siciliano (language arts and narration), Jeannette Tulis (nature study), and RaeAnna Goss (music) are also scheduled. We hope you will be able to join us for this day of encouragement – a day that will refresh your understanding of Charlotte Mason’s principles and renew your delight in this way of educating and living.

Charlotte’s Circle

This group was created for Charlotte Mason families to have a nurturing community to grow with - children and moms alike. To help achieve this goal we meet out of doors every Thursday throughout the year at local parks for free play, hikes, sharing of riches, field trips, and more.

As a dedicated homeschooling meetup group in Northern Virginia, we value the strong relationships we've built with our community over the years. It's more than meeting once a week. We seek to do life together.

Commonplace of Arlington

This is a discussion and support group for parents who are interested in or are already using the philosophy of Charlotte Mason in their home school.

We will start in August of 2025 with "Start Here," a study guide by Brandy Vencel. This is a great study for new-comers to the philosophy, but it also has plenty to ponder for the experienced. We will have time each meeting to talk about what's happening in our own home schools and celebrate the good as well as share ideas for those trouble spots. Meetings will be one Saturday morning each month.

Reach out for more details and tell me why you are interested in joining a Charlotte Mason discussion group. Looking forward to getting to know you!

Cottage Co-op

Cottage Co-op is a riches co-op for students aged 6 to 12 years old.

Our Friday meetings begin with gathering all together as families for
our folk song and hymn, announcements, and benediction.

Forms 1 & 2 enjoy time in Collective learning about a classic poet, artist,
and composer. Forms 1 & 2 also alternate weekly between nature study
or handicrafts. Both forms then end their co-op day with a game time
devoted to play, listening skills, and folk dances.

A typical Kinderleben class spends the first portion playing outside
making mud pies, rolling around in leaves, and searching for the largest
worms. We come inside to read stories and poems, recite a bible verse,
and learn new fingerplays. We might play with wooden train tracks or
clay, or practice sewing before all working together to clean up.

Open House – Learning pod for 1st -3rd graders

Dear family in Jesus, 🙂

My husband, Peter, is the teacher for this pod. He is trained under Ampleside. And Joanna is the mom who is hosting it in her home. You will find her lovely blog here: http://heartforchristschools.blogspot.com/2025/02/our-journey-with-glenbrook-christian.html.

The reason I’m excited to share this learning pod opportunity with families is because I think that they would appreciate its uniquely nurturing and Christ centered setting. Because it is very small, the children receive quality attention to help them flourish in every way. The learning experience encourages them to interact with Jesus in every moment and idea as they discover their full and beautiful design in His likeness.

Look forward to meeting you and your child in person! I will have the pleasure and honor to be spending time with the little ones during open house. I have been practicing as a psychotherapist for more than 15 years.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about this and please do share widely!
