Charlotte Mason Monterey Bay
Charlotte Mason Monterey Bay is a community of home-educating families dedicated to implementing Charlotte Masonâs philosophy in their homes. All levels of understanding are encouraged and welcome!
In alignment with Charlotte Masonâs Philosophy, this group upholds a biblical worldview, affirming that the Word of God is true and serves as the foundation of our beliefs.
Our purpose is to foster a community of families rooted in CMâs educational philosophy, that nurture a culture of living ideas for our children. Our location serves families in the Monterey Bay and Central Coast areas, including Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties.
We encourage involvement in two ways *ENGAGED* or *ROOTED*:
đ»ENGAGED: Joining in and finding a rhythm with others.
*Study Group (Parents Only)
Our study group is the heart of our community. Each month, we come together to thoughtfully study Charlotte Masonâs volumes, and this shared learning is what anchors everything we do. Because of that, consistent participation and commitment to the study group is a prerequisite for involvement in the broader offerings of our community.
*Nature Outings - Nature study, nature walks and outdoor exploration.
âšOur Rhythm âš
Study Group - Once a month on the second Monday @ 7PM
Nature Outings - Fridays 10:30AM - Bi weekly
đ»ROOTED: Invested, connected, and growing together.
A community grounded in Masonâs philosophy requires intentionality. When families commit to being present, friendships deepen and children form meaningful bonds. This consistency also allows trust & collaboration to flourish among parents.
*Our rooted community is for families who are actively pursuing a Charlotte Mason education, or who are ready to take the next step toward intentionally living out this philosophy within their homes. The offerings below are designed for families who are committed to consistent participation, allowing children to grow alongside others who are actively practicing the Charlotte Mason method. We are seeking the deep richness of connection that a Mason education naturally fosters within both children and families.
Offerings
* Nature group
* Field trips
* Book clubs
* Scouting
* Enrichments
* Mother Culture
* Family gatherings
âšCommunity Standards for both levels of engagement âš
We understand that finding a group that truly fits your familyâs needs can be challengingâthereâs no one-size-fits-all solution. Thatâs why we offer the flexibility to connect in two ways: Engaged or Rooted.
Community cannot grow without intentional connection. So before making a decisionâŠ
We ask that you:
* Prayerfully consider if this is where the Lord is leading your family in this season.
* Commit to CMMB as one of your primary homeschool groups
* Study Group participation
* Participate in at least 2 offerings to build community (rooted community)
* As a CMMB member, youâll have access to our Band app, where we post regular updates about offerings and events for the year.
We look forward to connecting with you!

Charlotte’s Circle
This group was created for Charlotte Mason families to have a nurturing community to grow with - children and moms alike. To help achieve this goal we meet out of doors every Thursday throughout the year at local parks for free play, hikes, sharing of riches, field trips, and more.
As a dedicated homeschooling meetup group in Northern Virginia, we value the strong relationships we've built with our community over the years. It's more than meeting once a week. We seek to do life together.

Cottage Co-op
Cottage Co-op is a riches co-op for students aged 6 to 12 years old.
Our Friday meetings begin with gathering all together as families for
our folk song and hymn, announcements, and benediction.
Forms 1 & 2 enjoy time in Collective learning about a classic poet, artist,
and composer. Forms 1 & 2 also alternate weekly between nature study
or handicrafts. Both forms then end their co-op day with a game time
devoted to play, listening skills, and folk dances.
A typical Kinderleben class spends the first portion playing outside
making mud pies, rolling around in leaves, and searching for the largest
worms. We come inside to read stories and poems, recite a bible verse,
and learn new fingerplays. We might play with wooden train tracks or
clay, or practice sewing before all working together to clean up.

summer program / 2025-26 – 1st to 3rd graders learning pod
Dear family in Jesus, đ
My husband, Peter, is the teacher for this pod. He is trained under Ampleside. And Joanna is the mom who is hosting it in her home. You will find her lovely blog here: http://heartforchristschools.blogspot.com/2025/02/our-journey-with-glenbrook-christian.html.
The reason Iâm excited to share this learning pod opportunity with families is because I think that they would appreciate its uniquely nurturing and Christ centered setting. Because it is very small, the children receive quality attention to help them flourish in every way. The learning experience encourages them to interact with Jesus in every moment and idea as they discover their full and beautiful design in His likeness.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about this and please do share widely!

Ambleside-by-the-Sea
Ambleside-by-the-Sea is a parent-led, two-day-a-week homeschool collaborative providing students from preschool through high school years with a Charlotte Mason education. We use living books, narration, and short lessons that spread a wide âfeastâ across varied subjects. We seek to provide an environment that allows our children to come into direct contact with vital and living ideas from great minds, and to nurture students in forming relations with all that is about them in substance and idea: in words, music, art, science, nature, mathematics, and all that is good, true, and beautiful.
We cover subjects including:
Math Drill / Math Lab / Math Games
Natural History / Science / Nature Notebooking
U.S. History
Ancient History
Plutarchâs âLivesâ (Forms III & IV)
Childrenâs Plutarch (Form II)
Shakespeare
Literature
Geography / Map Drill / Map Making
Poetry / Recitation
Latin (Forms III & IV)
Music / Folk Dancing / Composer Study
Art / Artist Study
Handicrafts
P.E.: Swedish Drill
We also have additional events together as a community including three book club meetings each year for all ages, and one or two handicraft fairs.
Because our intent is to cover academic subjects as well as those subjects often considered âenrichment subjects,â we meet twice weekly and in some ways function similarly to a âuniversity model school;" families can structure their days at home to fill in around the spines and core subjects we cover on our days together. Upper form students have several assignments to complete during their days at home, including literature and writing assignments, and science readings in preparation for science experiments done together.
Ambleside-by-the-Sea moms also meet monthly to read and discuss Charlotte Mason's volumes, and we are always happy to have more people join us!

Charlotte Mason New England
We are an intergenerational group of homeschool mothers who apply Charlotte Mason's principles in our home schools and co-ops.
We originally bonded over our love of Charlotte Mason's methods for a literature-based, whole-person education. As time went on, however, we realized there was a need for greater connection and mentorship in the New England area.
In 2024, we put on our first Spring Conference, Meet Charlotte Mason, and were surprised and delighted to connect with so many women interested in using Charlotte Mason's methods in their home schools. After the conference, we kept in touch with with many of these new friends. Eventually we were convinced of the need for a support structure for mentorship, fellowship, and further study of Mason's methods.
So we founded Charlotte Mason New England, a faith-based Charlotte Mason collaborative that helps CM educators find one another and provides regular opportunities to connect.
If you are a New England Area home educator, we would love to connect!

Charlotte Mason Study Group (CMSG)
WHO: The CMSG promotes Mother Culture through a community of parents that reads through a rotation of Charlotte Masonâs volumes.
WHEN: We meet monthly in the homes of our gracious hostesses in various regional locations to discuss the assigned readings.
WHAT: We focus on one book at a time to examine deeply the wisdom and philosophy of the author. We offer mutual encouragement and support in our homeschooling journeys.
WHY: We are âwaking up to our duties and in proportion as mothers become more educated and efficient, they will doubtless feel the more strongly that the education of their children during the first six years of life (and beyond) is an undertaking hardly to be entrusted to any hands but their own. And they will take up as their professionâthat is, with the diligence, regularity, and punctuality which men (and women) bestow on their professional labours. That the mother may know what she is about, may come thoroughly furnished to her work, she should have something more than an acquaintance with the theory of education, and with those conditions of the childâs nature upon which such theory rests. â (Volume 1 pg. 2-3)
Join us to âkeep growing and filling our mindsâ as we study the writings of Charlotte Mason. We have multiple regional groups in Mecklenburg County. To find a location near you or for more information, email us at ReedyCreekReview@gmail.com.
