2024 Charlotte Mason Institute Gathering

Join us at our 2024 annual gathering from July 25-27, 2024, in Wilmore, Kentucky! This conference will be a time of exploration and growth as we unpack Charlotte Mason’s ideas on handwork, life skills, and the joy of making. We’ll study the impact of creative work and discuss how artistry connects to many areas of the feast, sometimes in surprising ways. Our sessions will honor the old and embrace the new, and of course, we’ll live out what we teach as makers of beautiful and useful things! We hope to see you there! For those who are unable to join us in person, there will be a virtual option - more details coming soon!

Starting a Group in Charleston, WV

My family recently moved to Charleston, WV and as far as I can tell there isn’t a local CM group. I’d like to start a gathering for children and their families.

I envision beginning with a fortnightly nature study/walk to let our children delight in the wonder and beauty of creation. I’d also like to offer a monthly meet up for mums to read through Charlotte’s volumes or other related material.

If you are interested in joining, please sing out!

Hoping to Start a Group in Charleston, WV

My family has recently moved to Charleston, WV and as far as I can tell there are no CM groups nearby, so I would like to start one!

I envision this group beginning with a fortnightly (every other week) nature study/walk for our children to delight in the wonder of creation and enjoy one another’s company. I would also like to offer a monthly meet up for mums to read and discuss Charlotte’s volumes or other related content. I would be happy to discuss expanding from that starting point!

If you are interested, please sing out!

Greenville, TX

Charlotte Mason Book Club

Our group begins reading through one of Mason’s volumes each summer. Parents and children meet at my home in Greenville Texas, bi-weekly. Children play outdoors while parents (and babies) stay inside to discuss the chapters.

During the school year, we transition to a parents-only monthly meeting, in the evenings, to finish the volume.

Readings are split up and assigned at the beginning of the summer. Feel free to jump in any time.

Maryville CM Group

We are a new CM group in Maryville, TN. We are looking to start a CM book reading meeting, playdates, and possibly a co-op. We would love for others who are interested in CM education or who are already involved in CM living to join us as we get to know each other and grow a community of like minded families.

Plantings Academy: A Community of Learning

We are prayerfully forming a Christian community and an academy of learning for the purpose of discipling, educating, and habit training. Our mission is that our children grow rich in relationships – to God, self, others, ideas, work, and the created world.

“Education is not a subject and does not deal in subjects. It is instead a transfer of a way of life.” G.K. Chesterton

Do you
• desire to partner with other families in the academic development and character growth of your children?
• value a rich curriculum that inspires students toward what is good, true, and beautiful while preparing them for life?
• find it important that the Holy Spirit be acknowledged in all learning and the Word of God be the foundation of life?

Wonderful! You are invited to an Open House for further information on Plantings and an explanation of Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education.

Primary instructor/curriculum development: Kelly Holcomb (trained and experienced Charlotte Mason educator)
Secondary teacher: Jennifer Ellis

Format: 8-10 students meeting 3 days per week with assignments for home days

An emphasis on 11-13yr old because of current family makeup, but open to other ages as community expands.

Charlotte Mason Book Discussion, In Vital Harmony

Connect with likeminded mom's as we discuss the book, In Vital Harmony by Karen Glass. We will meet Tuesday, May 23rd & June 6th at 6:30 p.m. in Weaverville, N.C. The goal of the discussion will be to gain a deeper understanding of the philosophy of a Charlotte Mason education for our children and ourselves. She described her approach to education as, “Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.” Members will purchase the book to read and are encouraged to take notes or jot down questions to bring to the discussion. During the meeting, we will take turns sharing our thoughts about the book, what we learned, and how we related to the material.

“It is no arbitrary reward which is attached to the assembling of two or three together; we warm ourselves at each others’ fires, and glow with the heat we get. Let but the heads of two or three families meet together to talk over the bringing up of their children, and the best and wisest parents will go home with new insight, renewed purpose, and warmer zeal. ‘We shall learn by degrees that education is, like religion, a social principle as well as an individual duty; and, meeting on this higher ground, we shall find out the best of one another as we never should in the common intercourse of business or society.'”
Charlotte Mason, editorial note, Parents’ Review, March 1890
