Charlotte Mason at the Lake

We are a community of home educators who our inspired by the Philosophy of Education laid out by Charlotte Mason. We are all at different places in our homeschool journey but we seek to be a support to families wanting to implement part or the whole of a Charlotte Mason education. We do this by offering continuing education for teachers in our bi monthly study groups. We help carry the teaching burden in our morning co-op. We form community and accountability
as we study nature together in our weekly afternoon Nature Club. We wish to provide oppurtunies for families to learn new skills at our special events. Together we help encourage one another to grow as both educators and parents.

Book Discussion group

Our Book Discussion group meets on a Saturday morning, once a month, at a local coffee shop. We come together to discuss an assigned portion of our current selection, which right now is: Mother Culture by Karen Andreola. We have, over many years, read through other titles such as For the Children’s Sake, A Charlotte Mason Companion, CM volumes: Home Education, Ourselves, Formation of Character… All are welcome! We’re finding this title beneficial for moms at any stage of life— even those “retired” from homeschooling and raising children. There is no cost for the group, but we do ask that you purchase a coffee and/or breakfast from the shop where we meet, as they are kind and gracious hosts and running a small business. The relationships grown from this group are priceless and we are always excited to add another kindred friend!

Charlotte Mason Evening Group

Welcome, Mamas! We invite you to come and chat about all things Charlotte, ask questions, share resources, and discuss her volumes.

We meet every second Friday from 7:30-9:30 PM. Moms only, nursing babes welcome.

We read Mason's work with intention every month and gather to listen to how each is grappling with Mason's ideas. Taking turns hosting allows us to connect in comfort and confidentiality.

A greatness of thinking - or magnanimity, according to Mason - seasons our conversation. Essentially, when at odds, we "agree to disagree agreeably." We all homeschool differently and have different backgrounds, but we're committed to coming together to create meaningful, encouraging dialogue that seeks to understand Mason's ideas and one another.

As Mason wrote, education is truly an atmosphere, a discipline and a life. That children are whole persons. That the Holy Spirit is the Divine Teacher & we parents are co-collaborators in their education. That we mothers are being taught by the same means. As we seek to authentically interpret her work, we read with this lens in mind.

Welcome! We can't wait to learn alongside you ♥

Cross Creek Cottage

We are a CM community located in Searcy, AR. We are a 501c3 and have volunteer and independent contract teachers teaching CM subjects. Classes and schedule vary with each term. We meet about 16-20 weeks per year once, twice, or three times per week. We host 2 nature hikes per month in Fall and Spring. Our signature classes that we have most every term are: Shakespeare, Ballet, Folk Dancing, and Liaterature. Our aim is to create the best possible atmosphere for kids to learn and for “Cottage” day to be every kid’s favorite day of the week. We also regularly hold CM Volume study groups for parents as well as the Natural State Charlotte Mason Retreat.
